Almost three years ago now I was overweight, unhappy, and my life priorities were slightly out of whack. Plain and simple I had let myself go. I was at a crossroads on the path to awesomeness with two basic directions that led to very different versions of myself. Do I keep going down this path of living an unhealthy life without exercise/diet? Or do I make a stand and take charge of my life? I chose to be healthy again.
It was strange because my entire life up until I graduated college I had been very athletic. I played baseball for 13 years made it to the varsity team in high school. Then even after high school I continued to work out and stay fit. Somewhere in juggling my time between school, work, and video games I had slacked off at the gym. In 2009 I began my work outs again and it all led up to this… the Chicago Marathon.
Let me just say, running 26.2 miles is no joke…
I have no shortage of demo’s recorded of me running around as spy. It’s just a matter of finding the time to render them all out. Also, throw in the fact that the spy FPS view is lame when he’s changing his disguise; clouds of smoke cover the screen. To solve that problem I had to render out the same video in 3rd person view and edit it everything together. In the end I think it came out pretty cool. I might try to make another one soon, we’ll see.
Google+, I was doing it wrong. I’ve decided to treat it more like twitter and have it open to the world. There are a ton of amazing people out there sharing, and you should too.
I started following a bunch of other amazing game designers and artists. A great example of this would be this polycount circle.
The last two years of my life have been filled with many ups and downs. The only thing that remained constant was how awesome of a ride it’s been. Coming from 2009 to 2010 I had a great job, I made a ton of new friends, I moved into a great place in Irvine, and I felt really good about myself because I was constantly running/working out.
At the beginning of 2010 I found myself unemployed and looking for work. During my new found abundance of free time, I continued to improve my skills. I began creating a new demo reel for all the work I did for God of War. But the more I worked on my reel, the more I felt the producer within me kicking in again. This was something that I had not felt since back in college when I took on the role of a producer for nearly every one of my class projects.
